ALL DONE!!!!

Well, the house is just about done! Just a few finishing touches here and there, but for the most part it is FINITO!!!!! Right now we are working on building a new deck and some desperately needed landscaping, but that should be done in a few weeks too! YIPPEE!!!! In the meantime, here are some pics of the house. I apologize, but they are all in random order cuz I can't get blogger to move them around. Anyway, this has been a year-long project for Mr. BK and I and there was A LOT of blood, sweat and tears along the way, but it was well worth it! I ABSOLUTELY love our "new" house and I hope you do too!

The existing kitchen.
For some reason I CAN'T get this photo to move down. So, this is a pic of our new shower in the remodeled spare bathroom.
The existing spare bathroom.

The old dining room (it's gone now and a spare bedroom is there).

The existing family room (that's the deck behind that wall where our addition was built).

The old eat-in-kitchen (it's gone now and a new dining room is there).

The new ceiling in existing family room. It used to come to a point with a ceiling fan and a skylight. Now we have rope lights up inside that cove.

The ceiling design in the new dining room.

The new pantry (this might be my FAVORITE room).

More ceiling design from the new dining room.

The new mudroom area with a walk-in coat closet (the new laundry room is down the hall on the left and that back door leads out to the deck).

New tile floors in the kitchen and hardwood in the living room.

The entry way to the new dining room (our General Contractor does EXCELLENT finish work).

Cove lighting in the new family room (Hallie LOVES this).

New floors in the entry way.

New walk-in coat closet (another picture above).

The tile design from the hallway in front entrance (see picture above).

The two rooms in the back are part of our addition (that used to be where our deck was).

The new bedroom (used to be our dining room).

The remodeled spare bathroom (connected to the new bedroom).

The new laundry room.

The remodeled fireplace in the existing family room. It used to be ALL brick. A.LOT.OF.BRICK.

The remodeled spare bathroom again (different angle).

The new family room.

The new family room again (different angle).

My new washer and dryer in the laundry room (I spend a lot of time in here).

The remodeled kitchen. The pantry door is where the fridge used to be and the fridge is where our entrance way to the old dining room used to be.

The new dining room.

The remodeled kitchen again (different angle).

And, FINALLY, the new dining room, looking into the new family room (these room are "connected" by that half wall).
WHEW...I'm glad that's all DONE!!!!

WELL, HELLO THERE, HURRICANE BILL!

I went to the coast today to watch the surf kicked up by Hurricane Bill. It just passed by us, but it was close enough to create some HUGE waves! We went during high tide (along with everyone else that lives in Maine), but it was worth it. I wish I was able to post the noise that the waves made when they crashed against the rocks. It sounded like thunder. We were even close enough to get sprayed a few times by the waves! Here are a few pics...ENJOY!!!!

I'M HOT...

...I'm not complaining though. Our winters are LONG and COLD, so as "Mainers" we live for these days! Unfortunately, this summer has been a huge disappointment so far. We've had so much rain that I am growing mold instead of flowers. And, don't even get me started on the temperature. A high temperature of only 60 in July is just wrong on so many levels!

But, this week it's a different story. The 3 H's are back! Hazy, hot and humid. I love it! But, it is getting a little sticky in here. Which is why I am soooo happy that this is being installed tomorrow!

Meet my new best friend (sorry Hallie, but you only make me hot, this sucker cools me down)...

I know it doesn't look like much. But, right now this central air conditioning condenser is just sitting in my garage staring at me. Taunting me. Tomorrow it will be outside where it belongs. Just humming along and doing it's thing (whatever that is).

Can't wait!

HMMMM...

Isn't a given that when you order exterior doorknobs for your house that they would ALL be keyed the same?

Newsflash, not always...

Now, I have 5 doorknobs and 3 deadbolts that ALL require different keys.

Maybe this is how the Locksmiths stay in business...they are in cahoots with the doorknob manufacturers.

BTW - the house is 95% done...I'll post before and after pictures next week!!!!

FINALLY!!!!

I just have one thing to say.

These arrived today...
...I haven't had a washer and dryer in my house since DECEMBER!!!! It's like Christmas in July for me (alright, it's June, but close enough)!
Have a great weekend everyone. I bet you can all guess what I'll be doing...you can all bring your laundry over...I'll do it too!!!

LOTS AND LOTS OF TILE!

We are getting close to the final touches! The painters and the floor guys are about the only ones left with work to do on my house (well, besides the plumber and the electricians).
The two men installing my tile are amazing. They have been busy this week...

My shower in the spare bathroom (I'm thinking I might move my stuff in here)!

My floors in the kitchen...

the family room...

and, the front entrance.

We still have TONS of work to do outside, but I am thinking that within the next 6 weeks we should be all done inside! Yeah!!!!

ALMOST THERE!!!!

Thought I would share some photos of the house. Still not ready to move in yet, but at least the drywall is up. Sanding and priming the walls next week and then installing the floors. Hoping to be back at the house in just a few more weeks!!!!

Our new addition. The room on the right is our new dining room. The room on the left is our new family room. A half wall with columns will be built to separate the two rooms. The floors will be all red birch.

Looking from the back of the new dining room into the kitchen.

When finished, the ceiling in the dining room will look like this, just a different color.

Looking from the dining room into the new family room. Look at Mr. BK diligently working on house plans and deciding where to put his new TV! It will go on that wall between the two windows.

Looking into the new family room from the old family room. Those will be french pocket doors to separate the two rooms. Where did Mr. BK go?

This is our old family room. That fireplace used to be all brick. A LOT of brick. We put sheet rock over the brick and will build a new mantle and then tile around the opening. We have a new gas fireplace insert to put in there too. The floors will be hardwood in the center with a tile border (same tile used in the kitchen area).

This is our new ceiling above the fireplace. It is very modern looking now. We decided to drop the cathedral ceiling down a little and we will put rope lights up inside the cove.

The new mudroom. That is a coat closet and a built-in bench will go on that outside wall. That hallway leads to my laundry room on the left and eventually out to the back deck.

My new walk-in pantry in the kitchen (I hate to admit it, but I think this room might excite me the most!!!!).

I'll post more pictures of the new bedroom and bathroom once we get started in there too!
